Having a group of beautiful shelties has always been Allana's dream. With her severe asthma as a child the dream was not something that would likely happen. Even so, Allana's determination and love of the sheltie propelled her to visit the neighbors and train their sheltie puppy. Soon Allana was attending training classes at the Edmonton Sheltie Club and was "babysitting" the neighbor's puppy. Before long the puppy was living with Allana and the sheltie fever set in. Allana eventually got her own dog and began working her in obedience. "Mist" did not grow up to be show quality. Allana continued to show dogs in conformation for other people and finally acquired "Trinket" who would become her first champion and Group Placing dog.
When Allana married Daniel, the love of shelties became a mutual hobby and passion for both. They both trained and showed their dogs and were mentored by Jo Raymer, Mantoga Shelties. When Dan accepted a position at Texas State University, Dan and Allana moved from northern Canada to south central Texas where the shelties adjusted to the warm winters and hot summers.
The kennel name "Atwater" was selected from the name of a small town in the province of Saskatchewan where Allana's paternal grandparents lived. It is a place that holds special memories for Allana which made it the perfect name for special shelties.
Dan and Allana continue to train and show their shelties and handle for their friends.
